The Hotel School’s Professional Learning Centre (PLC) team is dedicated to providing students with unique opportunities to improve their employability and industry knowledge.

Our Professional Learning Centre team conduct an annual report on Graduate Outcomes.

The Graduate Outcomes Report for 2022 shows that 100% of 2022 graduates surveyed who chose to work were employed within six months of graduation. 92% of this group commenced their roles prior to their graduation date.

In 2022 the Professional Learning Centre advertised 11,519 industry experience opportunities for students. These included work experience, volunteer work, job vacancies, and internships, and were in addition to the opportunities available via industry networking events, and the annual Careers Expo.

Tourism industry statistics
According to the World and Travel Tourism Council by 2027, Travel & Tourism will account for 138,086,000 jobs directly worldwide, an increase of 2.2% pa over the next ten years. If we look at Australia alone, according to  Deloitte’s Australian Tourism Labour Force Report 2015-2020. it is expected Australia will need 123,125 new workers (including 59,594 skilled workers) will need to be sourced in the tourism industry (an increase of 4.1% per year)

PLC activities are open to all students at The Hotel School and include professional development courses, on-site visits, workshops and industry guest speakers. The PLC team is constantly striving to provide new and exciting opportunities for students.

Some PLC activities include:

  • Career Workshops

    Workshops assist you to learn about: roles in the Tourism & Hospitality industry, and how to apply for them; preparing professional cover letters, resumes and business emails; creating an effective LinkedIn profile; interview techniques.

  • Industry Insights in the Classroom

    Gain access to industry leaders through guest speakers who share their insights and industry knowledge.

  • Industry Insights in the Workplace

    Find out what it’s like to work in a hotel through our work experience programs with partner hotels.

  • Industry Insights - Field Trips

    Experience field trips to industry partners to gain insights into working in these operations. Annual trips include Mulpha owned properties InterContinental Sanctuary Cove, and Bimbadgen Winery in the Hunter Valley.

  • Networking

    Learn some tips on how to network and put them into practice when you meet with and learn from industry professionals.

  • Mock Interviews

    Be interviewed by an industry professional and receive feedback on performance to help with the ‘real thing’.

  • Industry Skills Training

    Receive help identifying certified courses to assist your professional development, including: Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification, Responsible Gambling Services (RCG) certification, Opera Hotel Software training.

  • Industry Skills Workshops

    The PLC team can help you identify workshops to assist your practical skills development, including: Food & Beverage skills, Barista, Bar skills.
